IMPORTANT: High School students taking this class must sign up for Mott Community College Auto Body 105 and Auto Body 106 for the semester they are taking the program. The class meets four hours each day for one semester. Therefore, students should plan for semester classes when scheduling in the auto body program. There are a total of four cumulative courses (Auto Body I, II, III, and IV) Is a lecture/laboratory class designed to teach the students the introductory skills required to perform auto body repairs.
Is a lecture/laboratory class designed to teach students the introductory skills required to perform auto body refinishing. Southern Lakes Career Technical Center offers students an additional opportunity to gain advanced placement credit with many colleges and universities. If students demonstrate competence at a specific skill level, they are given college credit. This is possible through an articulation agreement with certain two-year colleges and four-year universities. Best of all, there is NO charge for the college credit. Continuation of education after high school is encouraged and recommended. This career offers personal independence unheard of in other trades. An auto body craftsperson can literally go anywhere for employment. There is a great demand for good repair persons. Body repair work is a challenge and gives students a chance to be creative. This is a Mott Community College class offered to high school juniors and seniors and can lead to an associate degree. Students taking the classes receive high school credit and college credit.
Auto Body I (Welding & Metal Finishing):
Auto body welding with oxyacetylene, resistance spot, metallic inert gas are taught. Auto body sheet metal straightening procedures such as metal finishing; uses of auto body fillers and sheet metal fabrication are included. Students will have opportunity to repair vehicles that fit course curriculum guidelines. This course is a prerequisite for Auto Body II, III, and IV.
Auto Body II (Auto Body Painting):
These five fundamental areas of refinishing are taught: Refinish Equipment, Refinish Materials, Refinish Surface Preparation, Refinish Procedure Sequence, and Topcoat/Clear coat Application. Students will have to opportunity to repair vehicles that fit course curriculum guidelines. This course is a prerequisite for Auto Body III and IV.
