Southern Lakes Career Technical Center:

The Southern Lakes Career Technical Center serves high school age students and adults. The program is designed to make occupational training available to students. The following programs are challenging career-focused courses of study that meet high academic content standards.

Southern Lakes CTE Programs include work experiences, work place mentoring and broad instructional industry-specific skills tied to a students academic program. The Southern Lakes CTE Staff is 100% certified and meet or exceed the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) standards for teaching personnel.

Programs match students with employers in local industry sectors, and provide training in development of career major programs for teachers and worksite mentors.

SOUTHERN LAKES CAREER-TECHNICAL PROGRAMS


COOPERATIVE EDUCATION WITH EMPLOYERS

Students enrolled in a cooperative education program will earn wages while gaining high school credit, and gain a competitive edge in applying for future technical jobs. this education is an occupational training program for high school students, 16 years of age or older and is usually limited to seniors.

A student who has expressed a definate career interest and aptitude for an occupation, and is enrolled in a career-tech class, is placed with a cooperating employer. the student will work with the employer and the career-technical instructor in developing basic occupational skills for full-time employment.

Students will receive training in a career area of their choice that relates to a career-technical class in which they are enrolled. this program will help students develop good work habits and job attitudes, build self-confidence, and enhance job skills.

ARTICULATION FOR ADVANCED COLLEGE CREDIT

Southern Lakes Career Technical Center offers students an additional opportunity to gain advanced placement credit with many colleges and universities. If students demonstrate competence at a specific skill level, they are given college credit. This is possible through an articulation agreement with certain two-year colleges and four-year universities. Best of all, there is NO charge for the college credit. Continuation of education after high school is encouraged and recommended.
