Career Technical Center Calendar
The
Southern Lakes Academy is an alternative high school
designed for high school students who are at risk of not completing high school.
The program is open to students residing in the Fenton, Lake Fenton, Linden
and Goodrich School Districts as well as other students from through out the
Greater Genesee County area. Enrollment is limited to 130 students.
Students apply by submitting the required
application and taking a placement test.
The placement test is given year around and takes approximately
3 hours. An entrance interview is set up after the application is submitted
and the placement test is completed. Students need to provide the Academy
a copy of their most recent transcript, immunization record, and copy of their
birth certificate with the initial application.
Students are admitted on a first-come first-served basis. Students receiving
special services must apply and are admitted through the IEPC process only.
the IEPC must take place within the Fenton, Lake Fenton or Linden School Districts.
Students who have been formerly expelled from their last school or school District
of attendance must apply by appealing to the Board of Education for admittance.

Registration is held in August and January each school year. Registration

The GED program is for adults 18 years of age and older whose high school class has already graduated (class person entered 9th grade with). Includes General Education Development (GED) test preparation and testing. Preparation classes held September through June and testing held 6 times annually. The GED test takes approximately 10 hours to complete and covers language, reading comprehension, writing, social studies, and mathematics. Approximately 50 students attend and test annually.
Summer
School is a program designed for 9th through 12th grade students seeking
to take or re-take classes leading toward graduating high school. Registration
takes place in May and June annually. Registration forms and additional
information is available in your high school counseling offices or through the
Southern Lakes Career Center office. Students must be referred, in writing,
to attend summer school by either their high school principal or counselor as
a condition for admission. You can get specific information by calling (810)

A fee of $140.00 per class is charged per 1/2 credit. .
Students are admitted on a first-come first-served basis.
Classes are normally held the last week of June and the month of July.
